The first Jerusalem International Marathon

 The first Jerusalem International Marathon will take place on 25 March 2011, offering both amateur and professional runners the unique experience of running through a landscape rich in history and heritage, with breathtaking views and inspirational scenery.

Participants can choose between three marathon routes, starting at the Knesset and finishing at the Sacher Park:

  • 42.195 km (26.128 miles)
  • 21.1 km (13.1 miles)
  • 10 km (6.2 miles)

 All routes take the runners through downtown Jerusalem, as well as the Old City and alongside its walls. The routes pass sites that include the Sultan’s Pool, Jaffa Gate and Zion’s Gate, the Jerusalem Theater, the President’s Residence, the German colony in the Emek Refaim district, the stunning views of the Old and New City from the Sherover Promenade and (for those running the full marathon,) Ammunitiion Hill, Mount Scopus and Augustus Victoria.
