Telmap wins $5m Australian deal

Telmap will power Optus’s new real-time navigation service with live-traffic for all mobile platforms

Telmap today won a $5 million contract with Australian mobile carrier Optus Ltd., in the Israeli company’s first deal since it was acquired by Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) for $300 million in September. Telmap will power Optus’s new real-time navigation service with live-traffic for all mobile platforms.

The Optus Navigator service integrates vouchers for restaurants for a AU$40 payment for an annual subscription or AU$3 for a 24-subscription.

Optus Navigator subscribers will also have up-to-date access to points of interest from Lonely Planet. The live traffic updates will be provided by Optus’ own live traffic service which uses the Optus network of 8 million customers to deliver real-time traffic data across Australia.

The $5 million deal does not include income from additional advertising or services.

Telmap, founded in 2000, has 210 employees, and would have had $33 million revenue this year, and been profitable for two years, had it not been acquired.

Telmap CEO Oren Nissim said, “We have partnered with Optus to create a special edition of Telmap Navigator for the Australian market which leverages Optus’ unique traffic service and the Telmap leading technology to provide a complete on-the-go experience for the mass market. Telmap will continue to work closely with mobile operators and support them in offering a competitive local and valuable experience to their subscribers as part of their core services.”
