This year, the city of Jerusalem – in collaboration with the Israeli opera – is inaugurating an independent Opera Festival which will take place in the city on June and September 2012.
June 6-14 – La traviata in the Cedekiah’s Cave
60 minutes of Verdi magic with highlights from La traviata performed within the breathtaking beauty and intimacy of the Cedekiah’s Cave in the Old City. Leading Israeli opera singers accompanied by a small ensemble.
Three concerts under the majestic walls of the Old City.
September 6 – La Boheme at the foot of the Old City walls
One of the most popular operas in the repertoire. A touching love story that always brings a tear to your eye. A spectacular opera production featuring a gigantic chorus, children chorus, international opera soloists in ravishing costumes and with mesmerizing projections.
September 8 – Pretty Woman Meets The Fifth Element
Opera and films at the foot of the Old City walls
Stunning clips projected on a huge screen from movies like Pretty Woman, Moonstruck, The Fifth Element, Amadeus, A Room with a View, Casino Royal, Driving Miss Daisy, Bend it Like Beckham and many others, while opera soloists perform live on stage the music which is played in the films.
September 10 – Cantors and Tenors
A concert of opera hits and cantorial music
Leading international cantors and opera tenors perform some of the beloved cantorial gems in the repertoire together with the greatest tenor arias of all time.
