Ofek-19: Israel’s New Eye in the Sky Launched Successfully

Israeli innovation continues to impress, this time with the aerospace industry with the successful launch of Ofek 19, a highly advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) observation satellite.

This advanced satellite is designed to provide high-resolution imagery regardless of atmospheric conditions or lighting. Its SAR technology allows cameras and sensors to penetrate clouds and function effectively day or night.

From an altitude of around 600 km, the satellite can scan up to 15 square kilometres with a high resolution of 50 centimetres. This means Ofek 19 can monitor key activities like vehicle movements and infrastructure changes, providing essential intelligence data directly to the IDF’s Unit 9900, which specialises in visual intelligence and geospatial analysis.

The project is a significant collaborative achievement for Israel’s defence and space industries. Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) led the development, with contributions of critical technologies from Elta Systems, Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, and Tomer.

Learn more about IAI’s technological advancements at the 76th International Astronautical Congress in Sydney between 29th September to 3rd October.

IAI will be showcasing its innovations at the conference and presents an excellent opportunity to engage with new technological programs from Israel’s leading aerospace enterprise.
